About the Practice

Tamar Valley Health - general information about the practice

The Practice serves over 16,000 patients in a mainly rural part of south-east Cornwall, from two large purpose-built health centres in Callington and Gunnislake.

The practice has seven GP partners, two Pharmacist partners and six associate GPs.  We currently employ over 70 staff, who work in teams (nursing, information management, dispensing, reception and administration), under the direction of team leaders.  We also employ two General Practice Paramedics. There is a wide range of services for patients, offered by the practice team and by the staff of the local NHS trusts. There are dispensaries at each health centre, dispensing to all patients living more than a mile from a pharmacy.  We also have our own pharmacy at our Gunnislake premises.  There is a full range of nursing services, provided by practice nurses, phlebotomists and health care assistants.

Disabled access and facilities are available at both health centres, including automatic doors, disabled toilet facilities, height-adjustable examination couches and hearing loops. If you require additional assistance from a member of staff, please ask, and also please let us know if we are not meeting your needs in this area.

The practice does not currently undertake the training of general practitioners due to lack of space, but assists with training medical students. Patients will be advised when students are at their Health Centre, and given the opportunity to ask for them not to be present during their consultations.
